Study on the Relationship between the Changes of the Circumferential Situation and the Inhabitants' Consciousness in Flood Disaster

This study analyzes the relationship between the changes of circumferential situation and the
inhabitants' consciousness in flood disaster instancing the case of a resident of Koriyama in flood by
Typhoon 6 in July, 2002 by a questionnaire survey. The main results are in the followings.
The first, evacuation and action for protection their household goods against inundation arise
from recognition that it is at the calamity time, and these actions have tendency to be suspended
until the recognition became certain. In a uncertainly situation, most inhabitants take action of
accumulation of disaster information, and this action brings forward the time for receiving some
disaster information.
The second, on analysis using the Logistic Regression Analysis, it proved that the inhabitants'
timing in having recognition that it is at the calamity time depends on the following factors; the
timing in receiving information signaling imminent danger, the way of understanding of these
information, and the ordinary recognition about inundation.
