Density@Measurement of Molten Binary Alkali Silicate Systems by 2-sphere Archimedean Method

Kazamasa MATUSITA

High function , high efficiency and homogeneity are required for currently using newglasses .
It is desired to increasse efficiency of a glass manufacturing process, and it is important to grasp the physical properties of glass melts correctly.
In this study, the density of alkali silicate melts was measured using 2-sphere Archimedes method.
The apparatus was improved in order to attain the higher accuracy. And the correlation between density and viscosity, the most important factors controlling the melt state, was analyzed.
New viscosity formula was derived, considering thermal expansion (coefficient). It was found that this formula can express temperature dependence of viscosity more exactly than empirical VFT formula.
