It is presently indispensable to carry out monitoring of a forest for forest conservation. The an aerial photograph was used for monitoring of a forest in this study, the aerial photograph has an advantage of high spatial resolution, it is suitable for acquiring information such as form of a tree crown. However, as a pixel size of the aerial photograph is small, it is thought that it is difficult to catch a tree as a whole by one pixel, and obtain a good classification result by the classification pixel by pixel.

So, in this study, in addition to the conventional classification method pixel by pixel, with the pine grove of Seiro-cho, Niigata as a test site, a method of classification which took the surrounding pixels into consideration of the first classification results pixel by pixel was examined. It aims at developing a method of to classify tree spaces more correctly. Moreover, in order to verify the reliability of the classification technique developed by this study, comparison with a field survey and the classification result by the about method was also performed.
